This student, who is now in the fourth year of her undergraduate course, is her family’s only hope for a better future. Her father has left the family. The student lives with her mother and elder brother, who has a mental illness and is undergoing treatment.
The small piece of land that the family owned was mortgaged to take out an education loan for the elder brother to pursue an engineering degree. However, he discontinued his education and the loan is yet to be paid back.
The mother manages the household expenses through tailoring. After scoring 95% in Class 10 and 88% in Class 12, the student was determined to continue her higher education. With the last-minute help from her teacher and a few others, she managed to pay her first year fees and with support from Aalayam she successfully completed her second & third year. This year, she has requested again to help with academic expenses. Although her living conditions are bleak, the student is determined to put her best efforts into her studies.
After review, Aalayam has decided to support her with Rs. 15,000 towards her fees for her 4th year(8th Sem).
