Despite hailing from a troubled home, this student from Vellore has managed to make it to the third year of an engineering programme. His mother passed away when he was about 10 years old. His father is a daily wage earner who faces problems with alcoholism and his financial support for the family is erratic. The student lives with his relatives.
His keen interest in studies and hard work helped him complete Class 12. He took up small jobs after his Class 12 exams as he knew he would have to save money for a higher education. He worked at a bakery for Rs. 6,000 per month and in a juice factory for Rs. 250 per day and managed to save money for his first year of college.
He tried securing a bank loan to pay the fees for his second year of higher education but was turned down. He has requested help from Aalayam to pay his tuition fees and has said the he will continue to work part-time to fund living expenses and other needs.
